Early look at new WA film These Final Hours
- Apocalyptic feature film These Final Hours begins filming in Perth
- State Government invests in project through West Coast Visions initiative
- 50 talented West Australians involved
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day has visited the set of These Final Hours which, for the next month, has transformed some Perth streets into a pre-apocalyptic world as filming begins.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the State Government's support for the feature film through the highly competitive West Coast Visions initiative, was designed to develop and progress the careers of Western Australian filmmakers.
"These Final Hours is a high-quality production with two of WA's finest young filmmakers at the helm, directing more than 50 extraordinary, talented WA cast and crew," he said.
"The production has gained momentum since being awarded the West Coast Visions investment in 2011 and is one of a number of much-anticipated film projects that are currently under way in WA."
These Final Hours follows a self-obsessed young man who makes his way to the party-to end-all-parties on the last day on Earth, but ends up saving the life of a little girl searching for her father; their relationship ultimately leads him on the path to redemption.
Wolf Creek's Nathan Phillips and newcomer Angourie Rice have been cast in the lead roles while Dan Henshall (Snowtown), Lynette Curran (The Boys, Somersault), Sarah Snook (Not Suitable for Children), Jess De Gouw and Kathryn Beck play key supporting roles.
Executive producer Robert Connolly (Underground, Balibo, Romulus My Father) has teamed up with producer Liz Kearney and writer/director Zak Hilditch, who have had recent festival success with their Screen Australia funded short film Transmission (a companion piece to These Final Hours).
Transmission, which was nominated for an AACTA award, screened earlier this year at Tribeca in New York and won four prizes at the St Kilda Short Film Awards, including the top prize of $10,000 for Best Short Film.
