Edgewater Station car park benefits commuters
Multi-storey car park at Edgewater train station to open
Project generated about 70 jobs
Facility to provide 560 extra parking bays
The Liberal National Government has delivered on another election commitment with the opening of the new multi-storey car park at Edgewater Station.
Transport Minister Bill Marmion said the project, originally budgeted at $29.5 million, had been delivered for less than $26 million thanks to a competitive tendering environment.
"We committed to this project at the last election and are proud to deliver it under budget," Mr Marmion said.
"Construction of the new facility has generated 70 jobs and forms another part of the Liberal National Government's infrastructure development plan, which is committed to providing jobs now and into the future for West Australians.
"Growth in the northern suburbs has resulted in increased demand for parking along the Joondalup Line - this new car park will add more than 560 extra parking bays, taking the total number of bays to 1,454 at this station.
"Providing more parking at Edgewater is part of this Government's broader commitment to integrated, smart transport solutions.
"We are encouraging commuters to complete at least part of their journey using public transport to take pressure off our road system and reduce traffic congestion."
With the completion of the car park and 2,000 more bays at the Aubin Grove Station scheduled to be opened in April 2017, the Liberal National Government has added more than 8,900 parking spaces to the rail network since 2008.
