Electronic billboard advertising for freeways
- Four sites selected along Kwinana and Mitchell freeways
Revenue will fund road safety and traffic congestion initiatives
Advertising content will be controlled by Main Roads WA
Road safety and traffic congestion initiatives will be funded by advertising on new electronic billboards approved by the State Government on the Kwinana and Mitchell freeways.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder today announced that APN Outdoor (Trading) Pty Ltd had been awarded a 10-year contract to provide electronic billboard advertising on four sites.
"The company will design, construct, install and operate the billboards at four sites, with an option to install four more billboards within the freeway reserve," Mr Nalder said.
Stringent selection criteria has been applied to ensure the stand-alone billboard infrastructure will not be placed at critical driver decision making points, such as interchanges or merging sections.
Revenue will be reinvested into traffic and safety improvements and congestion management.
The billboards will also be used to inform motorists of major incidents ahead on the freeway network to assist them in adapting their journey accordingly.
Three sites have been selected along the Mitchell Freeway, near Hepburn Avenue, Hutton Street and Warwick Road. A fourth site has been selected on the Kwinana Freeway south near Berrigan Drive.
Subject to planning approvals, the first billboards will be installed later this year or early next year.
