West Australians will find remembering to renew their driver's licences and vehicle registrations easier thanks to Licence Alert, a new initiative announced today by Transport Minister Troy Buswell.

Mr Buswell said Licence Alert was a free SMS or email service that sent a reminder message to drivers and private vehicle owners 10 days before their licence expired.

"Mobile phones and emails have become an integral part of our daily lives and we have tapped into the latest technology to provide this unique service," he said.

"SMS and email messages are instant and cost-effective, and will provide customers with an efficient, accessible and convenient reminder service.

"Licence Alert is the first of its kind in Australia and will complement the reminder notices that drivers and vehicle owners will continue to receive by mail six weeks before the renewal date."

Licence Alert is available to all West Australian drivers and private vehicle owners.
