Environment Minister welcomes further work on container deposits
Environment Minister Donna Faragher has supported today's Environment Protection and Heritage Council decision for further work to be undertaken on proposed container deposit legislation.
"The council has resolved to pursue further work on a proposed new national measure to address resource efficiency, environmental impacts and the reduction of litter from packaging, including beverage containers through a two-stage approach," Mrs Faragher said.
"The first stage will involve a choice modelling survey to determine community attitudes on their preparedness to pay for a container deposit scheme.
"The council agreed to progress to a second stage, involving a detailed cost benefit analysis, subject to its consideration of the outcomes of the choice modelling survey.
"I look forward to seeing the outcomes of this further work and examining what is working well in other States."
