The State Government is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) for the former Swan District Hospital site, as part of its Land Asset Sales Program.

Lands Minister Terry Redman said the former hospital site was identified as surplus in 2014 and was closed in November last year when the new state-of-the-art 307-bed St John of God Midland Public Hospital opened.

"The location, size and redevelopment potential of the site is expected to generate considerable interest covering a range of possible uses - subject to zoning approvals," Mr Redman said.

"The site has  15 one and two-storey buildings - two of which have been identified as potentially adaptable for reuse - and a number of off-street car parks."

The Minister said the potential sale of under-used land assets would generate revenue that would contribute to reducing the State's debt levels.

The former hospital site is zoned 'Urban' under the Metropolitan Region Scheme and 'Public Purposes' under the City of Swan Local Planning Scheme.

Mr Redman said the Government was looking for prospective purchasers to provide their vision for the site which may include the reuse of all, part or none of the existing buildings.

"The EOI process managed by LandCorp will investigate proposals from interested parties, and determine the best outcome for the State and the community," he said.

The 10-week EOI process for the former Swan District Hospital site closes on May 25, 2016.
