Extension of term for Governor

Premier Colin Barnett today announced that the appointment of Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency, Dr Ken Michael AC had been extended until April 30, 2011.

Dr Michael's initial three-year term, which had been due to expire in 2009, was first extended until January 2011. 

"I am very pleased to be making this announcement today," the Premier said.

"Dr Michael has made a significant contribution to the community since taking up the position of Governor.

"Dr Michael has been a very popular Governor and it is fortunate that by extending his term into the new year, he and his wife Julie can continue to engage with so many West Australians.

Mr Barnett said the Government and the people of Western Australia appreciated the dedication and commitment shown by Dr and Mrs Michael.
