Feedback wanted on Middleton Beach plan

Lands Minister Terry Redman today announced the start of a community engagement program that will help shape planning for Albany's iconic Middleton Beach.

Lands Minister Terry Redman today announced the start of a community engagement program that will help shape planning for Albany's iconic Middleton Beach.

Mr Redman said the State Government wanted to deliver a project which would bring social and economic benefits for the Albany community while also transforming the current vacant site into a vibrant destination for tourists.

"By working collaboratively with the City of Albany and the local community, we believe we can maximise the potential of the site to deliver the social, economic and liveability benefits for the community that will also be crucial to attracting interest from private developers," he said.

Potential developments could include a boutique hotel, retail and commercial tenancies, as well as permanent residential accommodation.

The community consultation will kick off with an online survey, open from today to March 8, 2015, to help shape future development by the private sector.

"Following the online survey, we will be engaging in a number of workshops with Albany groups and businesses including architects, planners and designers to help add value in terms of planning for the project," the Minister said.

"We will also be working closely with the city, Great Southern Development Commission, Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry and key government agencies to ensure Middleton Beach, as one of the State's most iconic beaches, continues to be a favourite destination for residents and holiday-makers."
