Final stage of QEII multi-deck car park open
Final stage of QEII Medical Centre multi-deck car park to open on Sunday
Total of 3,093 car bays for patients, visitors and staff
New retail and childcare facilities to open in 2014
The final stage of the new multi-deck car park at the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Medical Centre will open ahead of schedule this weekend, significantly boosting the availability of parking at the expanding site.
The seven-storey structure, which has become a colourful landmark on the hospital site, now has 3,093 car parking bays for patients, visitors and staff.
Health Minister Kim Hames said the almost $2billion redevelopment of the QEII Medical Centre was well advanced and on its way to becoming an even busier hub of medical and research excellence.
"When Perth Children's Hospital opens in 2015, the centre will have more than 900 hospital beds and more than 5,000 parking bays," Dr Hames said.
"Ensuring all health services provided on the QEII Medical Centre site are easily accessible to patients, visitors and staff has been a primary consideration of the car park project.
"I'm pleased it's been delivered six months ahead of schedule and that the staged construction meant there was minimal disruption to site users.
"The inclusion of new retail spaces and a childcare centre in the new building will enhance the on-site experience for staff, patients and visitors."
A large section of landscaped area adjacent to the car park will provide an important dedicated green space and a link to the Perth Children's Hospital when it's completed in 2015.
