  • Construction of the $2billion Fiona Stanley Hospital project has passed halfway
  • Construction is now under way for all of the hospital's eight buildings
  • The project is on time and on budget to open in 2014

The State's biggest health infrastructure project, Fiona Stanley Hospital, is more than 50 per cent complete.

Health Minister Kim Hames said since building started at the Murdoch site in September 2009, the major public hospital project continued on time and on budget to open its doors in 2014.

"The Fiona Stanley Hospital project has achieved the 50 per cent mark for time and value," Dr Hames said.

"The hospital's eight buildings, which are all now under construction, cover a total floor area of 150,000sqm.

"The Education and Pathology buildings, including fit-out, are nearing completion and the 140-bed State rehabilitation service building is beginning to take shape, with the outer structure complete.

"With the road opening of Barry Marshall Parade in late September, local residents, community members and the general public will now be able to walk down the road and view the hospital's construction site more closely.

"A self-guided tour map has been developed to assist viewers, identifying key building features of the hospital."

The Fiona Stanley Hospital project aims to meet more key milestones in 2012, including the commissioning of the Central Plant and completion of the mental health unit, administration building and two four-level car parks.

The facades for both the main hospital building and State rehabilitation service will also be completed early in the New Year, ready for the fitting out stage.

Project team specialists will be on hand to provide first hand information on key aspects of development at and around the hospital, including updates on design and services, environmental and conservation initiatives, public transport and road networks.

To find out more about the exciting progress of Fiona Stanley Hospital, the project team invites residents, community members and the general public to an information event on Tuesday December 6 from 5pm to 7.30pm.
