Police Minister Liza Harvey today officially opened the new police station at Fitzroy Crossing.

  • State-of-the-art equipment at new station
  • Improved facilities and operational amenities

Police Minister Liza Harvey today officially opened the new police station at Fitzroy Crossing.

Mrs Harvey said the $10.2million station contained up-to-date and state-of-the-art equipment and lockup facilities which would allow officers to carry out their roles more effectively.

"I am very pleased to open this new station, which will service the people of Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding areas," she said.

The Minister said the station replaces the old 'donga' style station and lockup facility that was built in 1978.

"The new station incorporates all of the operational facilities necessary to meet the needs of the contemporary policing environment," she said.

"This includes a video interview room, detainee holding rooms, charge room, the latest communications systems and staff facilities, including a gymnasium and secure storage facilities."

Mrs Harvey said the station also housed an operations room that could be used to co-ordinate any searches within the area, as well as a forensic garage that doubled as a district training facility.

Consultation took place with local indigenous groups on the design of the station and local artwork has been incorporated into the building.
