After a year's hiatus, Perth is back on the international map as a travel hub for South-East Asia with Qantas reinstating its Perth-to-Singapore direct route from late June.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames welcomed the announcement, saying the five return flights per week offered more choice for those travelling between Singapore and Western Australia and could only be seen as positive for the local economy.

"I am pleased to see the Perth-to-Singapore route back on the regular flight schedule," Dr Hames said.

"The decision recognises the importance of Perth as a major gateway in Australia, and caters to the growing corporate and leisure visitor markets.

"Perth has a distinct advantage over other Australian cities in terms of time zone and distance to South-East Asia so it's convenient for business and holiday travellers - and makes sense for the route to be part of the Australian airline's itinerary."

Singapore remains a key international market in the State Government's plans to grow the value of tourism in WA to $12 billion by 2020.

In the 12 months to September 2014, 78,800 visitors from Singapore spent $193 million in WA. Those figures represent a 30 per cent increase in visitors and a 21 per cent increase in spend on the year before.

"WA offers what Singaporean visitors want:  clean air, extraordinary landscapes, unique cultural experiences, fresh produce and excellent business and education opportunities," the Minister said.

"Add to that the growing vibrancy of Perth and the significant number of new hotel rooms being built in the city, and the potential for continued growth is very high."
