Former Craigie High School site revamp moves forward
The development of land at the former Craigie High School has reached an exciting milestone with the community invited to attend an information session to outline the site's future plans.
During the 2008 State Election campaign, Premier Colin Barnett visited the site and was aghast at the school's derelict condition, indicating that a change of Government would bring about urgent action on its renewal.
Lands Minister Brendan Grylls said the public would be able to view planning documents for the site at the information session, to be held next to Otago Park on Saturday, February 13 from 9-11am.
Mr Grylls said the urban renewal project would revitalise a run-down site into a modern estate with a strong focus on community and sustainability initiatives.
"Ultimately, there will be a range of new housing options for the area and we will see the new development becoming a place the community can enjoy and be proud of," he said.
Plans for the site included restoration of nearby dunes, development of landscaping and pathways to create a central park area with other improvements to connect the site to the surrounding community and businesses.
Project managers Stockland, in partnership with LandCorp, was progressing the project which would see the development of about 120 residential lots.
Representatives would be on hand at the information session to explain the vision for the site and answer questions. All feedback would be used to develop a local structure plan which would be finalised in coming weeks and submitted to the City of Joondalup by June.
The Minister said the project's developers would continue to work closely with the City of Joondalup and other key stakeholders to ensure the structure plan for the site responded to the needs and expectations of the surrounding community.
