Foyer Oxford work wins public sector praise
- More than 60 entries received in the annual public sector management excellence awards
The work of State Government agencies in helping to address youth homelessness has been recognised at the 20th annual Premier's Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management.
The Housing Authority in partnership with Foundation Housing, Central Institute of Technology and Anglicare WA was awarded the overall prize for its Foyer Oxford program.
Foyer Oxford brings together a range of stakeholders to deliver a holistic response to youth homelessness. The 98-unit complex in Leederville was completed in 2014, and provides secure accommodation and services designed to transition young people into fully independent and productive lives.
Premier Colin Barnett said the standard of all finalists in the awards was extremely high and congratulated all entrants for their innovation and creativity in the delivery of services to the Western Australian community.
"Nominations were received from agencies of all sizes from projects reaching every part of our State to those making significant changes in their local communities," Mr Barnett said.
"The range of benefits includes economic, social, environmental, cultural and the health and wellbeing of West Australians.
"The award entries are an excellent way to share good ideas, good methods and great results - with each other, other jurisdictions and the wider community.
"Awards programs such as these, promote the public sector as an employer of choice, promote the collaborative work of the public sector and the benefits to the WA community, and increase awareness of outstanding bodies of work recognised for excellence in public sector management."
Eight category winners were also presented with their certificates along with 12 other finalists. The categories seek to reflect the goals and aims of the Government.
