Funding boost for Grower Group Alliance

  • New home for Grower Group Alliance

The Western Australian Government will provide $1.2million in funding and support to the Grower Group Alliance (GGA).

Agriculture and Food Minister Ken Baston said the funding would support communication between grower groups, research organisations and agribusinesses across Western Australia.

The Minister said the GGA was a non-profit, grower driven organisation that connected grower groups, research organisations and agribusiness across WA.

"This funding will ensure that grower groups continue to have access to key stakeholders, information and skills from across the grains supply chain," Mr Baston said.

"In challenging times, it's important that the State Government does what's necessary to pursue research and development for the sustainability of our grains industry."

The Minister said the flow of information would be further improved by the relocation of the GGA to the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC) offices on the Department of Agriculture and Food WA site in South Perth - facilities also shared with the Grain Industry Association of WA.

"Grower groups will be better connected with the right people and best information to maximise the productivity and profitability of our WA grain growers," he said.

"State-wide, the grains industry will see improvements in communication and leadership, as well as extra opportunities to build the future of the industry."

The GGA has been funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation, but because that funding is due to expire at the end of this financial year, the GGA will transition to the new DAFWA funding structure.
