Funding to drive grass roots growth

Fifty-five projects will get the green light after being awarded grant funding under the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

  • More than $17million in grants for local sport and recreation facilities
  • 55 projects from around Western Australia

Fifty-five projects will get the green light after being awarded grant funding under the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

Offered annually through the Department of Sport and Recreation, the grants for projects costing more than $150,000 are designed to contribute to the construction or improvement of grass roots sporting and recreation facilities across Western Australia.

Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the CSRFF grants totalling $17,694,272 would go towards sport and recreation facilities.

"Improved sport and recreation facilities definitely encourage people to be more active," Mr Waldron said.

"The State Government believes that being involved in sport and recreation at a grass roots level brings the community together, lowers crime and improves overall general health."

The Minister said the size of the grants allow the recipients to undertake projects which they might not otherwise be able to afford.

Among the $17,694,272 in grants announced were:

  • Town of Cambridge - $950,000 - new facility for City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club at City Beach

Thirty-five of the successful projects (51.6 per cent of the funding) are in regional WA totalling $9,135,778 and 20 projects are in the Perth metropolitan area (48.4 per cent of the funding) totalling $8,558,494.
