Western Australia's first ever major scale interactive children's festival kicks off in Bunbury this weekend.

The State Government has provided funding for the Funtabulous Bunbury Kidsfest through Eventscorp's Regional Events Scheme, partly funded by Royalties for Regions.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the kidsfest would offer more than 95 workshops, shows and activities for children aged from two to 12 years.

"The festival features eight interactive zones all housed in a purpose-built, all-weather marquee village," Dr Hames said.

"Children can enjoy cooking workshops, interactive Scitech shows, hands-on art and craft activities, sport clinics, a construction zone, an area designed especially for kids under five and animal displays.

"Regional events are important as they provide significant economic, social and cultural benefits to the community, as well as increase the region's profile through media exposure."

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said Royalties for Regions funding of $40million over four years had provided a significant boost to the Regional Events Scheme and showed the State Government's commitment to regional events and communities.

"Additional funding from Royalties for Regions ensures new events such as the Funtabulous Bunbury Kidsfest offer opportunities for regional children to be entertained and provided with new and enriching experiences during school holidays," Mr Grylls said.

Both Ministers thanked the Bunbury MLA John Castrilli for his ongoing support of the local community.
