- $10million from Liberal-National's Government's Royalties for Regions
Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls today announced a $10million contribution to the Onslow Community Development Fund, which is co-funded by Chevron as part of its Wheatstone LNG and domestic gas project.
Mr Grylls said the Wheatstone project would have a major impact on the community of Onslow and as such, Chevron had committed to making a significant investment not only in critical infrastructure, but also in the social infrastructure of the town.
"As part of an agreement between Chevron and the State Government, Royalties for Regions will allocate $10million and Chevron $20million to the Community Development Fund," he said.
"Projects associated with this fund will deliver a wide range of social benefits aligned with the State Government's Pilbara Cities vision to create vibrant, sustainable and prosperous places to live and work.
"Chevron's $29billion Wheatstone project is expected to create 6,500 jobs at peak construction and 300 new operational jobs.
"As a result of this and other projects located in the Ashburton North Strategic Industrial Area, Onslow's population is expected to increase significantly, and so improved infrastructure is needed.
"This doesn't just mean water and power - the community needs the recreational facilities, services and amenities that make a place enjoyable to live in.
"We want the people who move to Onslow to have a fantastic lifestyle, and the Community Development Fund will play a big part in achieving this."
North West MLA Vince Catania welcomed the announcement saying the development of the local community was of the utmost importance to the future of Onslow.
