Government pays tribute to Robert Juniper AM

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day paid tribute to respected Western Australian artist Robert Juniper AM, who died last night.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day paid tribute to respected Western Australian artist Robert Juniper AM, who died last night.

Mr Day said Robert Juniper, one of the State's most successful artists, had inspired many.

"He will be remembered for not only his outstanding works, but also his generosity to local artists," he said.

"Mr Juniper was very successful in making art accessible to all West Australians with his many public commissions, including murals, public sculptures, installations and posters.

"He was an outstanding interpreter of WA landscapes in a form which is largely abstract, but can be readily understood.  He leaves a legacy of a substantial body of unique and lasting works.

"In his local area of Darlington, he will also be remembered as one of the founders of the Darlington Arts Festival in the 1950s, originally to assist in raising funds for the local volunteer bushfire brigade.

"The State Government will work with Mr Juniper's family to support an event in 2013 to celebrate his life and work."

Mr Juniper, who was born in Merredin in 1929, has a significant number of works in the State Art Collection.
