The State Government has donated $20,000 to the St Vincent de Paul Society as part of their Christmas Appeal.
Police and Road Safety Minister Liza Harvey today attended the launch of the Christmas Appeal to donate the cheque on behalf of Premier Colin Barnett.
"This event is an opportunity for the St Vincent de Paul Society to acknowledge the support of the community in 2012, and to share some of the stories of the people they serve," Mrs Harvey said.
"These include youth, people living with mental illness, the homeless and families and individuals assisted with emergency relief support."
The theme for this year's society's Christmas Appeal is 'In every face of despair we see a face of hope'.
"This message is extremely poignant, especially for those West Australians who may be suffering hardship or loneliness at this time of the year," the Minister said.
"The St Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Appeal is a great opportunity for us all to pull together to assist those who are less fortunate.
"I urge all West Australians to donate to the appeal this year."
