The customer service centre at The Centre for Cerebral Palsy would be redeveloped with two State Government-supported Lotterywest grants, totalling $2.719million.

More than 500 people with disability across Western Australia would be assisted from the resultant specialised powered mobility devices and state-of-the-art communications.

The centre today received grants of $1.37million for improvements to its assistive technology service at the Sir David Brand Centre in Coolbinia and $1.349million for an upgrade to the organisation's information technology.

Disability Services Minister Helen Morton said the centre's $3.2million assistive technology service would develop a dedicated CP Tech Customer Service Centre to offer customised mobility and communication options to children, teenagers and adults with disability.

"The customer service centre will radically improve how The Centre for Cerebral Palsy meets client needs.  Currently, people who use the service must view, trial and be assessed for equipment all in the same small, inadequate waiting room and adjoining therapy rooms," Mrs Morton said.

"By creating a purpose-built customer service centre, it will be possible to offer assessment and therapy activities separately, providing greater comfort, privacy, confidentiality and opportunities for staff efficiency."

The CP Tech project is part of a broader $11.1million works program at the Sir David Brand Centre, which includes the redevelopment of on-site accommodation facilities.

"The Coolbinia centre continues to develop innovative ways to service the needs of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities," the Minister said.
