Greenwood Primary School forges new identity and traditions

Education Minister Liz Constable today officially opened the $12.

Education Minister Liz Constable today officially opened the $12.25million state-of-the-art Greenwood Primary School.

Dr Constable said the new school had been built to accommodate students from the former Allenswood and East Greenwood primary schools, which were amalgamated at the end of 2007.

"An enormous amount of work and considerable effort has gone into planning and building this new school, which is now forging its own identity and tradition," she said.

"The two former school communities have come together - parents, teachers, students and the local community - to ensure the strong spirit that thrived in the former schools is carried over to this new facility."

The Minister said 285 students from kindergarten to year 7 were enrolled at the school, which offered specialist programs in physical education, information and communications technology, music, Indonesian and art.

"Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard, allowing students to make the most of visual presentations, information from the internet and lessons from the teacher," she said.

"The art facilities have been designed to promote creativity and include a kiln, water troughs, drying racks and tables and chairs specially suited for young artists.

"There are also physical education and music facilities, as well as high-speed internet connections in all classrooms.

"The undercover area is fully fitted with audio visual equipment, including a projector and screen, and is being used for a range of purposes including dance lessons.

"With dedicated and experienced staff, this new school provides a stimulating environment for student learning."
