The State Government has welcomed the announcement of a star-studded field to contest the 25th Hyundai Hopman Cup, the first to be played at the new Perth Arena.

Acting Tourism Minister Troy Buswell said there was genuine excitement about seeing the world's best tennis players competing in Australia's best indoor/outdoor venue.

"Tennis Australia should be congratulated for assembling one of the best Hopman Cup fields we've seen," Mr Buswell said.

"Western Australian tennis fans are in for a real treat as the likes of Novak Djokovic, Ana Ivanovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Venus Williams, John Isner, Tommy Haas and Francesca Schiavone grace the new Perth Arena court.

"And it's great to see Perth's own Casey Dellacqua chosen to represent Australia alongside Bernard Tomic."

The Minister said the Perth Arena was purpose-built for the Hopman Cup and was the only stadium in Australia that replicated the conditions at Rod Laver Arena.

"As a tennis venue, the Perth Arena is going to blow the fans and players away, and we see this move as a real opportunity to grow the event in the future," he said.

Mr Buswell also welcomed the announcement that the Hopman Cup would be broadcast live outside Western Australia on Network Ten.

"Not only will that ensure great coverage of the event but also tremendous promotion of Perth and Western Australia as a whole," Mr Buswell said.
