Hotel developers to check-in at Waterfront

The State Government is calling for registrations of interest from developers for the establishment of a hotel at the Perth Waterfront site.

  • Rare opportunity for hotel developers to be part of the Perth Waterfront
  • Strong interest expected from national and international developers
  • Perth City Link and Riverside developments also include hotel plans

The State Government is calling for registrations of interest from developers for the establishment of a hotel at the Perth Waterfront site.

Planning Minister John Day said the Perth Waterfront project provided one of the most attractive opportunities for hotel development not only in Western Australia but also the Australian market.

"Opportunities to be a part of a premier development like the Perth Waterfront do not come around often and I expect strong interest from national and international hotel developers," Mr Day said.

"This early call for interest is the start of a staged release of waterfront development sites to provide a mix of office, retail, residential and tourism accommodation.

"The three-stage selection of a successful hotel developer will commence with registrations of interest which close on February 16 next year and be followed by the formal expression of interest process."

The Minister said the full land release program will commence formally in early 2012.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said a package of new incentives for hotel development outlined by the State Government is working to address the severe shortage of hotel rooms in Perth.

"Despite sustained high levels of occupancy and room rates, there has been limited investment in hotel development in Perth during the past five to 10 years," Dr Hames said.

"Projects such as the Perth Waterfront, Perth City Link and Riverside each have the capacity to deliver high quality hotel accommodation for Perth in key areas of our city."
