Housing for GPs in Port Hedland

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls was in Port Hedland today to hand over the keys to seven new General Practitioner (GP) houses.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls was in Port Hedland today to hand over the keys to seven new General Practitioner (GP) houses.

The $4.5million accommodation project received $1.5million from the State Government's Royalties for Regions program and support from the Town of Port Hedland and BHP Billiton.

Mr Grylls said affordable, quality accommodation was essential to attract more doctors to the region.

"Accommodation was identified as a major barrier for GPs looking to move to the Pilbara," he said.

"These new houses will help to attract more doctors to Port Hedland, which will improve access to health services for everyone in the region.

"Good health care is critical to making Port Hedland a place where people want to live and work."

The Minister said the project was the first of its kind in Port Hedland.

The Government is committed to building vibrant, attractive communities in the Pilbara as part of the Royalties for Regions Pilbara Cities initiative.
