The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 juggernaut hits Perth this weekend and West Australian cricket fans are preparing for one of this year's biggest sporting events.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said Perth would host three matches at the WACA Ground from this Saturday, offering an opportunity to showcase Perth through global coverage and interest in the series.

"The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is the pinnacle event in international cricket and I'm excited that the two top-ranked one-day international sides, Australia and India, will be playing in Western Australia," he said.

"I also look forward to officially welcoming cricketing legends, the West Indies, to WA at Sunday's free public event."

Qualifiers, United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan, will round out the field.

Dr Hames said the matches would be broadcast to millions of people around the world, generating valuable international media exposure for the State.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said the competition would showcase WA's ability to successfully host major events.

"Over the last few years, the State Government has invested in significant sporting and entertainment infrastructure including nib Stadium, Perth Arena and the new Perth Stadium," Ms Davies said.

"We have also invested $1.825 million in the redevelopment of the newly opened WACA Media Centre to enable it to host the World Cup in Perth.

"Western Australia as a whole will benefit from these facilities, as world cup commentators will relay not just the performances on the pitch, but how Perth and Western Australia are going through a once-in-a-lifetime revitalisation.

"I hope our World Cup heroes inspire a new generation of cricketers in WA as well as encouraging more people to become invaluable officials and volunteers."
