Inaugural DG appointed for Parks and Wildlife

Jim Sharp has been appointed to the inaugural position of Director General of the Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Environment Minister Albert Jacob today congratulated Mr Sharp on his appointment, following approval by the Governor.

"Jim was a deputy director general in the former Department of Environment and Conservation and has been acting director general of the Department of Parks and Wildlife since it was created last July," Mr Jacob said. 

"Jim has successfully led the formation of the new department from its inception and I acknowledge his professionalism and support in implementing the State Government's initiative."

Mr Sharp has more than 40 years' experience in the government sector and has worked extensively in the key areas of conservation and land management.

"Jim has a broad knowledge and experience of parks policy and management at a State, national and international level. He also brings considerable skills in engaging in partnerships with parks and conservation stakeholders and community interests."

The Minister said Mr Sharp's appointment would ensure the Department of Parks and Wildlife would build on its proud history of achievements in conservation and parks management.

"The department will set new direction and focus across four priority areas - parks, wildlife, fire and sustainable use," Mr Jacob said.

"I congratulate Mr Sharp on his appointment and I look forward to continuing to work with him as head of this important department."
