Innovation boost for regional childcare

Community childcare services in regional Western Australia are encouraged to apply for State Government grants of up to $25,000 to help with innovation and sustainability.

  • Grants up to $25,000 open to regional childcare services
  • Part of the $9.3million Regional Community Child Care Development Fund

Community childcare services in regional Western Australia are encouraged to apply for State Government grants of up to $25,000 to help with innovation and sustainability.

The strategic grants are made available through the Royalties for Regions-funded Regional Community Child Care Development Fund.

Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney and Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the fund was set up to help community childcare services grow and remain viable.

"Quality childcare is essential if families are to work, study and do all the other things that are part of family life," Mrs McSweeney said.

"If we want to build strong vibrant communities in WA, then providing accessible and good quality childcare in our regional areas is essential."

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said regional services faced particular challenges because of distance, isolation, reliance on volunteers and lack of funds.

"The Regional Community Child Care Development Fund is an example of how the Royalties for Regions program is being used to encourage growth and development in regional towns, by supporting vital services and building capacity in communities," Mr Grylls said.

Grant applications can be for training and professional development, help with developing business plans, pilot programs or resources. Organisations are encouraged to explore new ideas and partnerships with all children's services in their area.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to participate in a video-conferencing session to be broadcast to community resources centres, during which a panel will answer questions on the current round of strategic grants.
