Kimberley to shine bright like a diamond
- Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster secures three-year funding
- Supported through Tourism WA's Regional Events Program, funded by Royalties for Regions
- More than 30 events over 10 days
Celebrating 15 years and fresh from securing a three-year funding arrangement with the State Government, the 2015 Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster is set to kick off next week with a program of events in the Kimberley region.
Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the State Government, through Tourism WA's Regional Events Program, funded by Royalties for Regions, was proud to support the event.
"The Ord Valley Muster highlights the Kimberley's extraordinary landscapes, local produce and cultural diversity, attracting thousands of people to the region over 10 days," Dr Hames said.
"The Government funding over the next three years will support the expansion of the festival's program, including for tours, events and authentic Aboriginal tourism experiences all aimed at attracting even more visitors to the region.
"This unique event extends the traditional tourist season, delivering significant economic and social benefits to local communities."
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said he was pleased to see Royalties for Regions support the Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster for the next three years.
"Tourism development is critical to the economy and I am pleased to see the $60 million Royalties for Regions Regional Events Program positioning WA as a recognised events destination across the State, not just metropolitan areas," Mr Redman said.
"Events provide a boost to the economy, generate valuable media exposure and add vibrancy to regional towns, so there's real economic and social benefit to the community as well."
The Ord Valley Muster has been recognised for its contribution to tourism with 10 major Western Australian Tourism Awards, including induction into the WA Tourism Hall of Fame for winning the Festival and Events category for three consecutive years.
The festival will feature more than 30 events this year, including the renowned Kimberley Moon Experience, expected to attract about 5,000 people. Other highlights include the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, along with the Kimberley Kitchen and Durack Homestead long table dinner, both hosted by celebrity chef Matt Moran.
