Leaders from across the world will be treated to breathtaking views of Perth city during their retreat at the newly-built State Reception Centre in Kings Park during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Set in blooming garden surrounds, the Leaders' Retreat is the centrepiece of the CHOGM in Perth from Friday October 28 to Sunday October 30.

"Kings Park is looking fantastic and I am sure the Commonwealth leaders will be amazed by the beauty and wonder of more than 3,000 Western Australian native plants that will be on show," Environment Minister Bill Marmion said.

"Kings Park is one of the world's great inner-city gardens and the views to the city, Swan River and the Darling Scarp will provide a wonderful backdrop to the business of the Leaders' Retreat."

Commerce Minister Simon O'Brien said the State Reception Centre was a testimony to the professionalism and commitment of the architect, builder and contractors under the direction of Building Management and Works.

"It will be a lasting legacy to Perth and Western Australia of CHOGM 2011 and become a highly sought after venue for public, private, community and corporate events," Mr O'Brien said.

"There is also a wonderful connection between the new centre and the Commonwealth by the use of recycled wandoo timber for the building's balcony decking that came from the stadium seating used for the 1962 Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth."
