LeisureFit Booragoon dives into Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program
The LeisureFit Booragoon aquatic centre has shown its commitment to Perth's water future by achieving official Waterwise Approved status.
The centre, operated by the City of Melville, received recognition through the Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program.
Water Minister Mia Davies said the program, which was developed by the Water Corporation and Leisure Institute of Western Australia (LIWA) Aquatics, recognised aquatic and leisure centres across the State for their commitment to saving water.
"LeisureFit Booragoon carried out an extensive review of how water is used at its site and has a management plan in place to work towards saving water," Ms Davies said.
"This includes installing water-efficient timed showerheads, monitoring water use regularly to identify leaks, minimising the use of water in processes such as backwashing and cleaning, and encouraging patrons to use water wisely.
"Waterwise aquatic centres are a shining example of how a facility with water at its heart can manage and reduce its water use while still providing the same level of service to its patrons."
Since 2008, the Water Corporation has worked with LIWA Aquatics to promote water efficiency in aquatic centres, which has helped reduce water use across the industry by 12 per cent or more than 300 million litres of water - in aquatic centre terms, that is more than 133 Olympic- sized pools saved.
