Local companies are winners on stadium project
Nearly $40m of contracts awarded to local companies for stadium construction
More than 135 new jobs created for West Australians
Construction contracts for the new Perth Stadium totalling nearly $40 million have recently been awarded to local companies.
More than $180 million of stadium construction contracts have now been awarded with $156 million worth going to local companies. These local contracts will deliver more than 135 new jobs and ensure more than 230 existing jobs are sustained.
Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said Western Australian companies were continuing to benefit from the new Perth Stadium ahead of gates opening to fans in early 2018.
"The awarding of these contracts is another example of the benefits State Government-led infrastructure projects provide to local businesses and the economy," Ms Davies said.
"These companies, their subcontractors and employees will play a vital role in the successful delivery of this world-class sporting and entertainment facility."
Recent contract awards include:
- Wagstaff Piling: $15 million - responsible for driving more than 2,500 piles to support the stadium structure
- PERMAcast: $14 million - supply of pre-cast concrete seating platforms
- OneSteel Reinforcing: $5.7 million - supply of more than 4,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement
- Dependable Steel Fixing: $2.9 million - labour to affix steel reinforcement
- WA Universal Crane Hire: $2 million - supply of eight tower cranes.
Earlier this year, two other significant local contracts were awarded - $30 million for supply of formwork and concrete by Embleton-based CASC; and $73 million for steelwork by Henderson-based Civmec Construction and Engineering.
The Westadium consortium was appointed last year to design, build, partially finance and maintain the new Perth Stadium. The builder, Brookfield Multiplex, is responsible for sourcing and securing procurement packages for the construction phase. Construction of the stadium remains on schedule to open in time for the start of the 2018 AFL season.
