Local heroes named as finalists
- Organisations, individuals finalists in Community Services Excellence Awards
From the Kimberley to the Great Southern and across to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia's community spirit is alive and well as shown by an outstanding field of finalists in this year's community service awards.
Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney said the awards acknowledged the crucial role the not-for-profit sector played in supporting vulnerable people across the State.
"The standard of the 29 finalists for this year's awards is high and it's a reflection of the tremendous work being undertaken by the community services sector," Mrs McSweeney said.
"This year we have a dynamic and diverse range of finalists ranging from an organisation that seeks to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in Aboriginal communities to a volunteer organisation for musicians.
"These prestigious awards showcase some of the best examples of dedicated organisations and individuals in the community service sector who are working diligently to meet the needs of West Australians.
"This State Government recognises the community services sector and the vital role it plays in building strong, vibrant communities."
The Community Services Excellence Awards are presented by the Department for Communities in partnership with WACOSS.
Finalists and award winners will be acknowledged at a gala dinner held in conjunction with the 2012 Western Australian Council of Social Service Conference from May 8-10 2012, the broadest single gathering of community service representatives in the State.
