- LandCorp to release first 60 lots in Stage 1A
- Sale by private treaty reflects calmer Karratha land market
LandCorp will today release by private treaty 60 new residential lots at its highly anticipated Madigan Estate in Karratha.
Another round of 44 lots of Stage 1A will be released upon further demand.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the release by private treaty - for the first time in three years - rather than through a draw, was a clear indication the historical high demand for land in the town was steadily being addressed.
"In recent years the State Government has released more than 1,000 residential lots in Karratha and in addition facilitated more than 1,000 dwellings through the private sector, which has gone a long way to help meet the enormous demand for land brought about by the resources industry boom," Mr Grylls said.
"Part of the Government's Pilbara Cities vision for Karratha has been to ease this upward pressure on accommodation and rental prices and this plan is coming into fruition.
The Minister said the State Government had worked very hard in the last four years to normalise the Karratha housing market.
"Our priority is to give locals in Karratha the opportunity to walk into a real estate agent and choose the lot they want from a large variety. An extra 104 lots on the market will help make this dream a reality," he said.
With prices starting at $216,000 for 338sqm, Madigan Estate will provide a diverse range of lot sizes and quality housing types which will also showcase climate responsive design.
Land will be made available to local residents and business owners with potential buyers required to have lived in or run a business in the Shire of Roebourne for the past 12 months.
"These new dwellings will provide more affordable housing options and help establish Karratha as a world class City of the North with more than 50,000 permanent residents," Mr Grylls said.
