Disability employment organisation Intework has been awarded $1.

  • $1.7million grant towards capital infrastructure development in Balcatta
  • Intework provides life skills development  for people with disability
  • New offices to re-centralise services and administration at one location

Disability employment organisation Intework has been awarded $1.7million to purchase and fit out a new building in Balcatta.

The State Government Lotterywest grant will go towards a $5million development to allow Intework to re-centralise its services and administration.

Disability Services Minister Helen Morton said Intework had gone from strength to strength since its inception in January 1991.

"Originally, Intework had 24 school leavers with disability and seven staff, offering an employment service from a single office in Osborne Park," Mrs Morton said.

"Intework now gives assistance to more than 1,000 West Australians and is the biggest Alternative to Employment provider in the State."

The Minister said Intework offered three key program areas:  open employment, internal supported employment and Life Skills.

"The Life Skills program includes Alternatives to Employment, Post School Options and Intensive Family Support and these are funded by the Disability Services Commission," she said.

"WA is the only State in Australia where the profits from lottery games are returned directly back to the community as grants."
