Lotterywest supports Centenary Park upgrade
- Premier presents Lotterywest grant of $546,025 to City of Belmont
- Grant towards building upgrade of Centenary Park and recreation centre
Belmont's Centenary Park and recreation centre would get a major building upgrade, thanks to a Lotterywest grant of $546,025 presented today by Premier Colin Barnett.
The grant to the City of Belmont would go towards a fit-out of existing community facilities, new kitchen, main hall and updated club rooms to boost community participation in a diverse range of recreational, education and wellbeing activities.
"The building upgrade will improve the amenities, enabling the centre to reach its full potential as a multi-purpose community facility," Mr Barnett said.
"Local sporting clubs will operate from the centre and organisations, including Wanslea, Playgroup WA and PCYC, will have the space to continue their important community work."
The total cost of the building upgrade is about $1.5million, with construction due to start in September 2013.
The Premier also acknowledged the work of Belmont's Lotterywest retailers for their part in helping Lotterywest raise a record amount of money for the community this year.
In 2011-12, Lotterywest raised $257million for beneficiaries, including $116.5million given in direct grants to more than 1,000 different community organisations throughout the State.
Western Australia is the only State where the money raised from lottery products is distributed directly back into the community to support a range of good causes.
