Subject:  Towards Zero strategy

Minister's response:

"I have said repeatedly since day one that I support the Towards Zero strategy and I am proud to say it has been endorsed by Cabinet.

"This strategy is about the community working together to achieve a common goal.  It is not just about how much money is spent.

"Funding for the various components of the strategy is now up to the individual agencies involved.  They will develop submissions to Government as and when needed for specific projects and those submissions will then be considered through the normal Cabinet and budgetary processes.

"The strategy was endorsed by Cabinet last week and I wanted to get it into the public domain at the earliest opportunity because I have a very strong commitment to road safety.

"I also wanted to raise public awareness about the issue and to help create an environment that will hopefully have the entire community committed to helping achieve the fundamental aim of the strategy that is - zero deaths."
