Meekatharra festival offers true outback bash
- Four-day outback event with rodeo, parade and fireworks
- Supported by Eventscorp's Regional Events Scheme, jointly funded through Royalties for Regions
Visitors to Western Australia's Murchison region this long weekend can kick up their heels and enjoy a true outback experience thanks to Meeka's Outback Festival.
Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the four-day festival was a highlight of the town's event calendar and celebrated country life in Western Australia.
"Now in its eighth year, Meeka's Outback Festival showcases the very best of the outback with a rodeo, a float parade, live entertainment, market stalls, fireworks and an outback ball," Dr Hames said.
"The Meekatharra Race Club will also host its annual meeting as well as an 1,800-metre foot race around the track.
"Famous for its gold mining heritage and stunning display of wildflowers in spring, Meekatharra is home to ancient granite rock formations and a discovery trail of indigenous and settlement history."
The State Government is proud to support Meeka's Outback Festival through Eventscorp's Regional Event Scheme, which is jointly funded by Royalties for Regions.
"Regional events make a significant contribution to local communities by adding vibrancy and making a town an exciting place to visit, and a great place to live," Dr Hames said.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said he was proud of the State Government's commitment to regional events and the benefits they brought to communities.
"The Regional Events Scheme has so far provided invaluable support to more than 100 events in regional communities throughout the State," Mr Grylls said.
"The $40million of Royalties for Regions funding dedicated to events is giving many towns around the State something to get excited about and offers tourists great reasons to get out and visit the regions.
"Events provide regional communities with an opportunity to celebrate their lifestyle and the things that make their town a special place to live, which is wonderful."
