Mental health services in Derby and surrounding communities have been boosted with the opening of new premises for the Derby Community Mental Health and Drug Service.
Mental Health Minister Helen Morton said today an existing ward at the Derby Hospital received $1.8 million worth of refurbishments for the outpatient clinic, which will be run by the WA Country Health Services' Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Services.
"I am delighted that modern mental health services are now available to Derby people, and that we are able to offer those services to people living in communities in the Derby catchment area," Mrs Morton said.
Staff moved into the clinic last month and patients have been attending daily since this time.
Services include mental health, drug and alcohol prevention and counselling as well as child and adolescent mental health services.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said people living in remote parts of Western Australia will now be able to receive culturally appropriate services with improved facilities such as Telehealth.
"These improved services will assist in bringing further social and economic benefits to the region," Mr Redman said.
"Through the State Government's Royalties for Regions, accessibility to services in regional and remote WA is being enhanced to ensure sustainability for future generations."
The new premises include interview and treatment rooms, storage facilities and amenities suitable for adults, adolescents and children.
