- PathWest will be the first of eight major projects to transform the site
The first major construction milestone has been reached, with the concrete complete on the sixth and final storey of the PathWest building at the QEII Medical Centre.
Health Minister Kim Hames said the installation of the facade structure was now under way on the new building which was due for completion in 2012.
"The six-storey building will include an advanced level of automation and sophisticated technology to produce faster and even more reliable test results," Dr Hames said.
"Several million tests can be carried out each year, on behalf of the community and the patients of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and the new children's hospital which is due for completion on the QEIIMC site in 2015."
Specialist clinical pathology services include:
. diagnostic genomics
. cancer diagnostics
. haematology
. autologous bone marrow transplant
. microbiology
. biochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology
. cytogenetics
. immunology
Dr Hames said the PathWest building would be the first to link up to the new Central Energy Plant also under construction to deliver essential services to existing and planned facilities on site.
"This is an exciting period of transformation and we are thrilled to bring such a range of state-of-the-art services to the people of WA over the next four years," he said.
