Millstream Dam upgrade maximises capacity
- $25million project completed to more than double capacity of Millstream Dam
Millstream Dam one billion litres to provide central storage for BRWSS
Water Minister Bill Marmion today announced the completion of a $25million State Government project to more than double the capacity of Millstream Dam to one billion litres.
Millstream Dam is the central water storage for the Bridgetown Regional Water Supply Scheme (BRWSS), which is being developed to meet the long-term supply needs of Bridgetown, Boyup Brook, Hester, Greenbushes, Balingup, Mullalyup and Kirup.
Mr Marmion said the upgrade was part of a number of projects planned to secure the long-term water supply for town's supplied by the BRWSS.
"The upgrade to maximise capacity of Millstream Dam provides a much-needed storage increase for this central component of the BRWSS," he said.
"Detailed planning for other components of the scheme, which includes pipelines to link the towns, is significantly advanced.
"Construction of the Hester to Boyup Brook pipeline began in April 2012 and is scheduled for completion by June 2013.
"Construction of the Millstream to Greenbushes pipeline will start in November 2013, while the Greenbushes to Kirup pipeline is scheduled for completion in 2016.
"When works have been completed, these towns will be serviced by an integrated, water supply network which will be linked to Millstream Dam."
The Minister encouraged households in the Warren-Blackwood area to continue their water efficiency efforts and take advantage of the State Government's Rainwater Rewards rebate, offered by the Water Corporation.
