Minister acts on OPSSC report

Heritage Minister John Castrilli said the Heritage Council of Western Australia had, at his direction, corrected procurement and recruitment practices after breaches of the Public Sector Management Act had occurred within the organisation.

The matters were brought to light by Office of Public Sector Standards Commissioner (OPSSC) Dr Ruth Shean in a report tabled today.

"The report said complaints had been brought against the Heritage Council specifically concerning two of its contracted staff," Mr Castrilli said.

"The Commissioner found an employee did not have the authority to undertake secondary employment and that it was possible that the purchasing arrangements in place at the Heritage Council had not been properly managed.

"Since receiving the initial information from the Commissioner, I directed the council members to exercise a greater role in provision of governance to their organisation.

"I have received full cooperation from the council's acting chair and the acting director to remedy these operational concerns."
