Minister clarifies Government's reaction to Woollard Bill
In response to the smoking of cigarettes in outdoor cafes and other local government controlled areas including beaches, parks and picnic areas, Local Government Minister John Castrill said:
"This is a Private Members Bill from Alfred Cove MLA Janet Woollard and once members have a chance to assess the implications, the Liberal-National Government will make a decision on how it is dealt with including, if required, the best way to enforce any outcomes."
"I also appreciate that local councils have existing priorities in dealing with their principal responsibilities to ratepayers.
"In principle, I support any reasonable measure that helps to curb smoking, including better education of smokers to encourage them to desist from smoking in public outdoor dining and other recreation areas."
