Safety Bay students from kindergarten to Year 12 are benefiting from learning in new facilities thanks to the State Government's investment in local schools.

Education Minister Liz Constable today opened the rebuilt Safety Bay Primary School and new science facilities at Safety Bay Senior High School, which are part of the record $1.1billion investment in new schools and building, refurbishment and improvement work across Western Australia.

Dr Constable said the opening of the redeveloped $12.8million Safety Bay Primary School had begun a new chapter in the school's 68-year history.

"The new-look school, which opened its doors last year, features purpose-built rooms for arts and music; sporting areas; 16 classrooms equipped with smart boards, computers and wireless internet; and three early childhood classrooms," she said.

"Safety Bay Primary School has long enjoyed strong links with the community and support from parents, and now students have a very positive space in which to learn.

"Enrolments are at the highest they have been in 15 years with 584 students from kindergarten to Year 7 this year."

The school also includes an Education Support Centre for students with a diverse range of learning needs.

The Minister said students at Safety Bay Senior High School were also benefiting from upgraded facilities.

"Some science laboratories were redesigned and modernised and are now equipped with new audiovisual equipment and workstations," she said.

"The chemical storage area was also upgraded with better ventilation systems and enhanced storage space, and staff studies were also improved."
