  • Top international and local players join field
  • Field size increased to 156 players
  • International TV coverage to reach 400 million homes

More top golfers have been added to the field for next month's inaugural Perth International at Lake Karrinyup Country Club.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames today welcomed the announcement that former world No.3 Paul Casey from England, and local stars Brett Rumford, Rick Kulacz and Matt Jager will join world No.6 Jason Dufner and 2011 US Masters winner Charl Schwartzel at Australia's richest golf tournament.

"Paul Casey, the winner of 14 international tournaments, was ranked as high as third in the world in 2009 before being hit by injury. Golf fans are in for a real treat as they watch him continue his comeback here in Perth," Dr Hames said.

Western Australia will be well represented at the Perth International with locals Brett Rumford, a three-time European Tour winner; Rick Kulacz, a two-time winner in the Asian Tour; and Matt Jager, the 2010 Australian Amateur Champion, all entered.

"A strong field for the tournament is taking shape. There's been tremendous interest from European Tour players and as a result the field has been increased from 144 to 156. Entries close soon, with more player announcements to come," the Minister said.

Dr Hames also welcomed the news that event owner IMG had secured a domestic prime time broadcast deal with FOX SPORTS along with more than 800 hours of international coverage to 400 million homes worldwide.

"That will provide tremendous exposure for Perth and Western Australia," he said.

With $US2million in prize money, the Perth International is the richest tournament in Australia and the only one to be co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia. The State Government is a proud sponsor through Eventscorp.
