New Exmouth pen project complete

• 25 new cyclone-rated pens at Exmouth Boat Harbour complete

• Project meets growing demand for moorings in the region

The $4.2million pen project at Exmouth Boat Harbour has been completed, marking the end of the first stage of a major upgrade at the facility.

Transport Minister Troy Buswell said the majority of the 25 high quality, cyclone-rated pens, ranging in size from 15 to 25m, had been allocated to commercial operators and recreational users prior to completion of the project.

"The timely completion of this project by the Department of Transport (DoT) delivers much needed infrastructure.  As the largest harbour south of the Pilbara, Exmouth is well located to service the expanding maritime industry in the north of the State," Mr Buswell said.

Wangara-based company Engineered Water Systems completed the design and construction of the new pen system this week.

The floating pen system extends from the car park, adjacent to the Exmouth Fishing Club.  It has been built to the highest standard and incorporates design features to meet cyclonic weather conditions and assist everyday use of the facility.

All of the pens have a finger jetty extending the entire length of the pen to assist loading, unloading and general access.
