The State Government has appointed experienced barristers and solicitors Brian Mahon and Mark Millington as Magistrates of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia.

Attorney General Michael Mischin said both individuals were highly professional legal practitioners who had a wide range of experience in the justice system.

Mr Mahon began his legal career in the United Kingdom in 1997, working as a barrister for Equity Chambers in the United Kingdom until 2001 and St Philips Chambers until 2004.

In 2004, he moved to Western Australia and started work as a pre-admission law clerk with Nicholson Clement Lawyers in Mandurah.

Mr Mahon was admitted in 2007 and since 2008, has worked with Equity Legal as a director, solicitor and barrister specialising in criminal and violence restraining order practice.

Mr Millington began his legal career in WA in 2004, when he joined Legal Aid WA and represented clients in Magistrates Courts across metropolitan and regional WA.

Since 2007, he has worked as a barrister and solicitor with his firm Millington Legal, representing clients in bail applications, mitigation pleas and trials in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts.

Mr Mischin said the appointments were made following an extensive recruitment process, which attracted a strong field of candidates, and recommendations were made by a panel that included the Solicitor General; a District Court judge and the Deputy Chief Magistrate.
