Premier Colin Barnett has announced the State Government will provide funding to assist the Kimberley Land Council (KLC) develop a new administration building in Broome.

Premier Colin Barnett has announced the State Government will provide funding to assist the Kimberley Land Council (KLC) develop a new administration building in Broome.

The Premier said the facility would cost more than $13million with $3.9million provided by Royalties for Regions under the Regional Development Council's (RDC) Action Agenda 2011 Funding Scheme.

"The Royalties for Regions Action Agenda round funded a number of programs including indigenous education and housing, training and a range of infrastructure projects, including arts and cultural centres," Mr Barnett said.

"The new administration centre will provide the KLC with office accommodation and conference and meeting rooms which will deliver long term training and employment opportunities for Kimberley indigenous people." 

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the Royalties for Regions Action Agenda funding round had provided $79.5million for 36 projects across regional WA.

"The development of the KLC Administration Centre will directly employ up to 20 local indigenous people and provide contracting opportunities for up to 15 local indigenous companies during the construction of the project," Mr Grylls said.

"It is a major asset investment by the KLC and assist the organisation to attain sustainability, improve productivity and efficiency while assisting some 19,000 Aboriginal Kimberley residents."
