New aged care facilities for Roebourne
- $6.08million from Royalties for Regions for the $11.8million centre
- Yaandina Family Centre Inc to build the new aged care project
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls today announced the Liberal-National Government would provide $6.08million in Royalties for Regions funding to the Yaandina Family Centre to build a 20-bed residential aged care facility in Roebourne.
Mr Grylls said further funding of $3.6million would be provided by the Federal Government, with land donations from the Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation and the Yaandina Family Centre making up the $11.8million cost of the project.
"The Yaandina Family Centre will develop the facility to provide high, low and respite care to address an increasing demand for aged care facilities in the region," he said.
"The new facility will replace the current nine-bed hostel which has operated for the past 24 years providing low care and limited respite services to the area."
Yaandina's current facility is one of only two residential aged care facilities servicing the needs of the Pilbara community. The other, Kallarra House in South Hedland, has 56 beds and both centres are operating at capacity with 90 per cent occupancy by Aboriginal people.
"With the vision of the State Government's Pilbara Cities program to expand the population in the region, it is a priority not only to expand health services but in particular aged care services to meet the current and growing demands," the Minister said.
Yaandina is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation which has been providing a broad range of community services across the Pilbara for more than three decades. Yaandina provides aged, welfare and health services to the elderly, sick and young people in Roebourne and surrounding communities.
