New appointment for Magistrates Court

State Prosecutor Michelle Ridley has been appointed to the Magistrates Court.

State Prosecutor Michelle Ridley has been appointed to the Magistrates Court.

Attorney General Michael Mischin said the appointment would fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Magistrate Barbara Lane.

Mr Mischin said Ms Ridley was a highly experienced legal practitioner and her skills and knowledge would be a valuable asset to the court.

"I congratulate Ms Ridley on her appointment and look forward to her valuable contribution in her new position within the justice system," the Attorney General said.

Ms Ridley commenced her legal career working within the civil and commercial litigation sections at Gibson and Gibson in 1986 and then undertook articles in the insurance section at Parker and Parker from 1992 to 1994.

She was a barrister and solicitor at several law firms, including Macdonald Rudder (1994-1996 and 1999-2001), Phillips Fox in Kalgoorlie (1996-1999) and Friedman Lurie Singh (2001-2002).

From 2002 to 2006, Ms Ridley was sole practitioner at the WA Police Union of Workers, providing advice and representation on various legal matters affecting police officers.

She joined the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in 2006, where she is currently a State Prosecutor.
